How to make 808 from scratch | Beginner Tutorial

Whatever DAW you use, you can make 808s from scratch. Its way easier than you think!

Start with your synth of choice. to get the standard drum hit, start with a light dip on the sustain. Then drag out the release to at least 3 seconds. You can now drop the octave down 2-3 octaves to get the bassy tone.

Add your saturator of choice. The harder the curve, the grittier the sound. Crank the gain to find your desired grit. You may need to back off the output volume a bit after this.

Add an eq after this to sculpt the sound. Do a sharp 30hz low cut and the do a low pass and dial back the top end a little bit.

Now you have made your first 808 to use in your beats!
