Wide of session STORYLINE: Iran's Assembly of Experts has opened its first post-election session with tributes being paid to late president Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash. The assembly is the clerical body in charge of electing Iran's supreme leader and Tuesday's session was the first after the election that decided the members of the panel. It came two days after the crash that killed Raisi, as well as Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the leader of Friday prayers in Tabriz, Mohammad Ali Ale-Heshem, and other officials. Like Raisi, Ale-Heshem was a member of the assembly, and flowers were placed on the seats they would have occupied at the meeting of the 88-member panel. Raisi was considered one of the main candidates to replace current Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in the future.
