America's most famous Halloween Festival takes place in Salem, Massachusetts, a legendary town remembered for the persecution of hapless people accused of being witches in the seventeenth century. Later in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Salem families grew rich through whaling and long-distance trade with China and India.
