For my final review of 2023, let’s have a look at the all new Tonale Veloce PHEV! With eAWD, sharp styling, impressive technology, and hot incentives, I predict the Tonale is going to be a hot seller in the US throughout 2024. But is everything perfect here? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

-1.3L Turbo Inline-4 (180HP, 199 lb-ft of torque)
-Rear AC Motor (121HP, 184 torque)
-285HP, 347 lb-ft of torque Combined
-15.5kWh battery pack, 33 miles EV Range

-6-Speed Auto (Front wheels only)/ Rear Direct drive
-0-60MPH under 5.5seconds

Highs:
-The Tonale is a hot looking little SUV with gorgeous wheels, painted gloss black trim, dynamic body lines and iconic Alfa wheels
-The PHEV powertrain was shockingly good with strong EV range, quick LVL2 charging.
-The adaptive dampers do wonders for the experience.
Lows:
-The seating position is way too high and can be uncomfortable for some, large A-pillars.
-The driving dynamics are OK, but it doesn’t feel particularly sporty, you can feel the extra weight over a gas Dodge Hornet, higher center of gravity.
-Interior is nicely appointed and quality has vastly improved over preproduction models though some materials could be more premium vs a BMW X1, Mercedes GLA, and seats need more support.
Overall I liked the Tonale for what it is. It may not be a Giorgio platform Alfa, but it’s a nice stopgap before the brand goes full EV.
