Ceramic Coatings are an amazing
Ceramic Coatings are an amazing way to achieve extreme Gloss, Slickness, and protection for your vehicles paint and other surfaces. But with so many Ceramic Coating Brands in the market, and claims of durability lasting 5, 7, 9 years and even a few packages from some brands that offer a lifetime warranty, what is the truth behind all of these claims. I remember when Ceramic Coatings first came out, the 9H hardness was marketed as a defense against scratches and other damage that just isn't completely true (at least as a blanket statement).
Durability and hardness of ceramic coatings, as well as many other features will be greatly effected by the care of the coating, and the location, storage, and climate of where the vehicle is. For example, two identical vehicles coated with the same products can have drastically different outcomes over time. One car may be garage kept in a mild weather environment like San Diego, while the other vehicle may experience extreme heat through summers in Arizona or extreme cold with salted roads in places like New York, Chicago, or many other places.
I had the pleasure to sit down over a zoom call and speak with the President and CEO of Cerakote, a company that specializes in thin film ceramic coatings in both automotive and industrial applications, to get the truth behind all of the claims. We speak about how things like hardness, ph resistance, slickness, gloss, and others metrics are actually testes and if they apply directly to real world situations.
