TN Seshan was an Indian civil servant and administrator who served as the 10th Chief Election Commissioner of India from 1990 to 1996. He was born on 15 December 1932 in Thirunelveali, Tamil Nadu and graduated from Loyola College, Chennai. He joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1955 and held various positions in the state and central governments, including Collector of Madras, Secretary to the Government of India, and Cabinet Secretary.

In 1990, he was appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner of India, a position he held until 1996. During his tenure, he introduced a series of electoral reforms that aimed to clean up the Indian electoral process and restore the integrity of the country's democratic institutions. These reforms included stricter enforcement of election laws, the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs), and the introduction of voter identity cards.

Seshan's efforts were widely praised and earned him numerous accolades, including the prestigious Padma Bhushan award. He was also instrumental in organizing the first-ever elections in newly independent Nepal. His legacy as a reformer and defender of electoral integrity continues to be celebrated in India and around the world
