In this tutorial, we will show you how to mount a remote folder in Ubuntu.

For this tutorial we will be using the application named Samba, which helps to create shared folders in the Linux environment. The newer versions of Ubuntu come with this mount remote drive installed by default. For this tutorial, we will assume that you have the package already installed in the Linux environment.

Step 1 -- Type in the search box
To get started, click on the Dash which is located on the top left corner of the screen, and in the search box type:
smb://192.168.1.16. Over here you can also open any remote folder with the help of the computer name.

Step 2 -- Open shared directory
With that done, let's open up any shared directory over here. For example open up "Users".

Step 3 -- Enter password
Once done, you will be required to give the password for the shared folder and then click on Connect.

Step 4 -- View the "Users" folder
With that done you can see the "Users" folder is mounted in the left pane under the Network section.

Step 5 -- Bookmark the folder
You can also bookmark this mounted folder by right clicking on the folder and choosing the "Add Bookmark" option.

Step 6 -- View the folder
Let's close and reopen the Home Window Again and in the left pane you can now see that the folder is located under the Bookmark section.

Step 7 -- Remove the folder
You can also remove that folder by simply right clicking on it and then pressing remove.

Step 8 -- Un-mount the folder
If you want to un- mount the remote folder, simply do so by right clicking on it and choosing the "Unmount" option.

Step 9 -- Re-open the "Home" folder
If you close and re-open the "Home" folder once more, you can see that the mounted folder has been removed.
This process is not possible without the mount remote drive that is the Samba application. Therefore make sure you have it before starting.
