Joy Denalane explains the Soul of Motown – how Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and others made the Detroit sound a world heritage of pop for all time. Since 1959, Motown has been sound, lifestyle, empowerment. Motown stars such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and Michael Jackson defined soul and are still shaping today. Joy Denalane grew up with these records, she has known Motown since her early childhood. Her new album “Let Yourself Be Loved” (4th September 2020) is a tribute to this sound and the classic soul. It’s the first album by a German artist on Motown Records, so it comes full circle. Here Joy explains the enormous influence and history of Motown to this day.
