On 30th June 1908, a large asteroid entered Earth's atmosphere traveling at a speed of 54,000 km per hour and headed straight towards Siberia, Russia. When the asteroid was 5-10 km above the surface it exploded with a force of 15 megatons of TNT. 185 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb.

Blast was so big that it was visible from 800 km away. The shock wave from it flattened 80 million trees over an area of 2,150 square kilometres. Windows smashed in a nearby town over 60 km away and residents even felt heat from the blast. Later detailed research showed that the asteroid was just 50–100 meters in diameter since it was an air burst, no crater was found.
