In this video we present to you Vid.Aravind Bhargav playing a Raga Alapana in Ragam Kharaharapriya on the Mandolin.
Kharaharapriya is the 22nd Melakarta Ragam(Parent Scale) in the 72 Melakarta raga system.This Ragam has a distinct melody and brings out the Karuna Rasam invoking pathos in the listeners.
The 'Kaafi' thaat of Hindustani music is the equivalent of Kharaharapriya. The Basic scale of Kharaharapriya has been used in Film music very extensively. Among the Trinity of Carnatic music Saint Thyagaraja has composed the maximum number of compositions. Some of the most popular Carnatic compositions include :
Chakani Raja Margamu, Nadachi Nadachi, Pakkala Nilabadi, Rama Nee Samana among many others.
