Private Channels came out on November 4, 2019. I'll cover why to create a private channel in Teams, how to create a private channel, limitations on private channels, and changing a private channel to a standard channel (it can't be done).
Agenda:
1) When did private channels become available?
November 4, 2019
2) Why create a private channel.
Example: your team has 20 people and they have access to all the channels in the team. You need a channel that only five people on the team can view files, chat, etc. This is a great example of when to create a private channel.
3) How to create a private channel
To create a private channel, click More Options - Add Channel. Name the channel and the drop-down for Privacy, make the channel Private. Click next and add members to the channel.
4) Limitations of private channels
Currently, Forms and Planner are not available in private channels. Microsoft is working on adding the missing apps to private channels.
5) Changing from private to standard
A private channel can not be changed to standard. A standard channel can not be made private.
