SPUN Underground Explorers

SPUN has been building a global network of scientists. Together with local researchers, we are mapping fungi in some of the most remote, understudied ecosystems on Earth. Now, we are thrilled to announce a partnership with the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation to build a program focused exclusively on researchers sampling soils in their own countries.

Through our Underground Explorers program, we collaborate with researchers and local communities to map mycorrhizal fungal biodiversity. The program provides grants to mycorrhizal researchers working on projects to understand the mycorrhizal communities of their home lands, prioritizing areas that are undersampled and underrepresented in our data sets.
