Did you know that ancient civilizations had some truly strange laws and traditions?
In ancient China, being short had its perks. In 200 BC, Emperor Qin Shihuang was just 4 feet 11 inches tall, yet his height gave him immense power.
According to his 18 laws, you had to be as tall as him to be considered an adult.
Shorter men could easily plead as children, thanks to incomplete birth records.
But passing the height test came with a catch.
Crying was strictly prohibited for men.
For women, a bizarre crying ritual preceded marriage.
Every woman had to cry for an hour every day for 30 days before her wedding.
And she wasn't alone. Her family joined in too.
The mother cried for 3 weeks, the grandmother for 2 weeks, and sisters for 1 week.
It was a bizarre but necessary display of affection for her family.
And that's just one example of the strange customs from ancient times!
