www.speechandlanguagekids.com/teachf/ Speech-Language Pathologist Carrie Clark shows you how to teach a child to say the /f/ sound from start to finish. The approach I'm going to show you today is considered an articulation approach, which means you will start by teaching the child to say the sound by itself, like "ffff", then you work on the sound in syllables, like "fuh, foh, foo". After that, you work on the sound in single words like "fan, fix, off", phrases , and then sentences. Once you've done all that, then you work on helping your child say the sound in conversational speech. Step One: Say the Sound in Isolation The most important step of this is simply saying the sound by itself. This is where I see the most people get stuck. How to say the /f/ sound: bite bottom lip blow *Try inverted if trouble with teeth. Tips for getting a good one: you hold their lip they hold their lip try it in a mirror put some peanut butter on lip and have them scrape it off with teeth Do this until they can say it 80% in isolation Step Two: Say it in Syllables Step Three: Say it in Words Step Four: Say it in Phrases/Sentences Step Five: Structured Conversation Step Six: Correction and reinforcement for conversational speech You can download the entire /f/ home program by visiting the original post here: www.speechandlanguagekids.com/teachf/.
