The Russian Arena-M active protection complex will be improved, General Designer Valery Kashin announced this to the Russian Minister of Defense. The Arena-M complex for protecting tanks from ATGMs and shells will be equipped on T-72, T-80 and T-90 tanks, and possibly on the Terminator BMPT. The Arena-M complex will also have the function of protecting the tank from drones, since this is now the main threat to tanks. It is not reported how this will be done; most likely there will be a new radar. The Russian active protection complex "Arena-M" was tested back in 2021, it was tested on Russian and foreign ammunition, it is worth noting that it was never installed on tanks. The Arena-M active protection system is similar to the Israeli Trophy tank protection system from Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd., which is installed on the Merkava Mark IV and M1A2C Abrams tanks. The Arena-M complex consists of a radar, an on-board computer, a console and blocks of protective ammunition in installation shafts. The Arena-M complex, with the help of a radar, detects a missile or projectile flying at a tank, after which it gives the command to neutralize it. To do this, narrowly targeted ammunition placed along the perimeter of the tower is fired towards the missile. The complex detects targets at a distance of up to 50 meters and fires defensive ammunition in 0.07 seconds. Each defensive ammunition fires at its own sector around the tank. The use of the Arena-M complex makes it possible to approximately double the survivability of a tank during offensive operations.
