Welcome back to ‘the bible says what’.  Today I will summarize Proverbs chapter 30, which contain 11 proverbs.  These proverbs were wise words from a man named Agur, the son of Jake.  Chapter 30 and 31 are the only two chapters in the book of Proverbs that Solomon did not write.  Agur began: I am a stupid man without understanding, just like every other man.  I don’t have knowledge of the one and only Holy God.  He has ascended into heaven and descended.  He gathered the wind in his fists.  He designed the corners of the earth and established the ends of the earth. Do you know His name?  He has a Son.  Do you know His son’s name?
Agur continued: every word of God is perfect.  He is a shield to everyone who runs to him for safety.  Do not add anything to his words, or he will call you a liar to your face.  You won’t enjoy that at all.  Lord, keep lies far from me.  Help me not to be deceived.  Don’t give me poverty or riches, so I don’t steal and profane your name or forget you if I have too much.
Agur taught:  do not slander a slave to his master, or the master may curse you.  There is a kind of person who curses his father and mother and considers himself sinless. He devours everything in his path.  He is arrogant.  But not for long.  Young eagles will eat out his eyes, and then his spirit will be crushed by the fist of God.  The leech parasite person keeps saying ‘give me, give me’ and is never satisfied.  Four other things will never be satisfied.  The fires of hell, the barren womb, the drought parched land, and a raging forest fire.  Speaking of four things, there are four things I don’t understand. How an eagle flies, how a snake slithers, how a ship stays afloat, and the way a man treats a woman.
Agur continued: There are four things troubling on the earth.  When a slave becomes a king, when a fool is satisfied with food, when a man does not love his wife, and when a servant takes the place of her mistress.  There are four small wise things on the earth; ants are not strong but they store up their food.  Badgers are not strong but they live in rocks where nothing can harm them.  The locust has no leader but they fly together.  And the lizard is very easy to capture but it can be found in kings palaces.  And there are four things that are amazing to watch.  The lion who does not retreat before anything, the strutting rooster, the male goat fighting, and a king when his army is with him.
The most important verses in this chapter are Proverbs 30:8 and 9 which state, ‘Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the Lord? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.’
The thing I think the Lord wants us to understand after reading this chapter is that no one has any knowledge about God other than what He himself has given to us.  He wants us to know that His every word is pure and true and He is a shield to everyone who puts their trust in Him.  The poor and the rich are both vulnerable to sin against Him.  And God wants us to know that we should be content in any situation we find ourselves.
Are you content in your current situation?  Are you stealing because you think you don’t have enough?  Are you forgetting about God because you have too much?  Why don’t you turn back to the Lord?  Repent for your sin and turn to Jesus for salvation.  Jesus humbled himself and died on a cross to pay for your sin, and the Father raised Jesus from the dead.  God said if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and if you believe in your heart that the Father raised Jesus from the dead, you would be saved.  Why don’t you do that right now?
