The Why Us essay is a staple College Application Essay, and this video, I'm going to walk you through everything I did to answer it. From USC to Columbia, Yale to Northwestern, every college wants to know why you would choose to attend their university.
In the video, we're going to start off by understanding what NOT to do in a Why Us Essay. Don't talk about physical features and common rituals like location, climate, mascot, etc. They already know this. Your goal is to demonstrate your interest in the university by substantiating your claims with tangible opportunities. From Research facilities to Professors, Labs to student organisations, your Why Us essay should be multi-dimensional and specific to your interests.
Another important feature of the Why Us essay is the implicit Why You? Yes, this campus has opportunities that you would love to benefit from, but why should you receive them - out of every other applicant. This is a question you can answer only after linking your personal experiences and the campus's opportunities.
Finally, I take all of you through my Why Us template, how I used a Day in the Life approach to make this otherwise dry essay interesting, and the exact way I conducted my college research.
