A short documentary about the 1849 Gold Rush in California, with history and facts. The California Gold Rush, was a rapid influx of fortune seekers in California that began after January 24, 1848, when gold was found by James W. Marshall at Sutter's Mill in Coloma, California. At the time of the gold discovery, California was still a province of Mexico, sparsely populated, with only about 14,000 non-indigenous people.

The news of gold brought approximately 300,000 people to California from the rest of the United States and abroad, in less than 7 years. The sudden population increase allowed California to became a state rapidly, in the Compromise of 1850, while the sudden influx of gold into the money supply reinvigorated the American economy. California's name became connected with the Gold Rush, and fast success in a new world became known as the "California Dream."
