At the Sony Creative Center, we are working with Sony Music Entertainment to develop “yuru” musical instruments (“yuru” in Japanese meaning free, generous, flexible, and approachable, amongst a range of other nuanced meanings) that are accessible to all. The inclusive design-based “Hug Drum”, presented at the Yuru Sports Land 2024, expresses sound through light and vibration and was created in response to people with hearing impairments who wanted to enjoy music.
Instrument mentors who participated in the “Hug Drum” development are Improvisation Performance Group el tempo and General Incorporated Association Sign Language Entertainment Group oioi.

ソニーのデザイン部門であるクリエイティブセンターは、ソニー・ミュージックエンタテインメントと協働し、誰もが楽しめる「ゆる楽器」の開発を進めています。 叩いた音を光と振動で感じられる打楽器体験「ハグドラム」を2024年5月11日に開催した「ゆるスポーツランド2024」にて初公開。
ハグドラムは、インクルーシブデザインの手法を用いて聴覚に障がいのある方の「音楽を楽しみたい」という声をもとにデザインしました。楽器開発メンターとして、今回は聴覚障がいのある手話パフォーマーの岡﨑伸彦氏と中川綾二氏、シシド・カフカ氏率いるel tempoのプロのミュージシャンたちもメンターとして加わっていただきました。
プロジェクトの生い立ちについてはSony Design Webへ。
