The importance of intercultural communication | Dr. Maria Luján Stasevicius | TEDxRiceU

In her talk, Professor Stasevicius explores the concept of identity to different people, and how travel is unique in exploring other’s as well as our own identity. Her presentation places a particular emphasis on the distinctiveness of travel as a transformative journey, offering a unique lens through which we can unravel and comprehend not only the identities of others but also delve deeper into the layers of our own selves. Dr. Stasevicius holds a Ph.D. in Spanish and Cultural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She obtained her BA in Literature and Education in Argentina, where she is from. Her fields of interest and expertise are Intercultural Communication, Cultural Studies, and Curriculum Development in Higher Education. Since she arrived at Rice in 2016, she has designed and developed academic materials and hosted professional workshops about interculturality and diversity in the workplace besides participating and hosting meetings at regional and international conferences.
