Neue Nationalgalerie

The Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin, an icon of classical modernism, is reopening its doors after a sensitive refurbishment by David Chipperfield Architects.

Preserving as much of the original design as possible, we were commissioned to carry out the lighting design as well as daylight planning for the building. Our team in Berlin delivered a sensitive, sustainable, and nearly “invisible” restored design that pays homage to Mies van der Rohe’s 1968 lighting concept.

While maintaining the original lighting layout and meeting stringent conservation and architectural standards, our lighting specialists developed an upgrade concept that fulfils the curatorial, functional, technical and economic requirements of a museum of the 21st century.
