There is also a vitreous membrane, a layer of collagen, that separates the vitreous humour from the rest of the eye. This membrane consistes of two known anatomical parts.

The posterior hyaloid membrane, which separates the rear of the vitreous from the retina.

and the anterior hyaloid membrane, which separates the front of the vitreous from the lens.

The vitreous performs vital roles, such as,

maintaining the eye's shape,
and providing the necessary pressure to keep the retina in place.

Some disorders associated with the vitreous humor may include.
