Jantar Mantar Jaipur Astronomical Heritage

Jaipur jantar Mantar is now a UNESCO world heritage site. It was completed in year 1734 by Rajput king Raja sawai Jai singh 2nd. The word Jantar mantar means - Astronomical instruments or calculations.

Maharaja Jai singh had knowledge keen interest in Astronomical predictions and Astronomy as a science. His interest led to creation of Jantar Mantar.

Jantar Mantar Jaipur has world’s largest stone sundial. Time of the day can be predicted with 2 seconds accuracy.

Location:

Jantar Mantar of Jaipur is located near City palace & Hawa Mahal in Jaipur.

I will recommend you to visit this place with a tourist guide who can take you through each instrument and demonstrate how it works even today.

In all there are 19 instruments at Jantar mantar with each performing some function of astrology or astronomy.
