The General Douglas MacArthur memorial statue at the MacArthur Leyte Landing Memorial, located in Palo, Leyte, Philippines. Very close to Red Beach, where MacArthur landed to liberate the Philippines from the Japanese in World War 2.
His famous words, "I Shall Return" was a promise that he kept after having to flee the Philippines a few years earlier due to threat of Japanese capture.
I will also detail how to get to the monument from Cebu City, traveling by ferry boat to Ormoc and then van ride to Palo, as well as why MacArthur is a big reason why the Philippines and USA have a long-standing alliance and friendship. I'll also highlight why Leyte is a wonderful place to visit if you want to get out of chaos of Cebu City.
