What Was I Scared of is a short story by Dr. Suess from The Sneetches and Other Tales. Making friends can be difficult. It can be scary to meet people who are different. This story teaches that even someone we don't understand may want the same acceptance and friendship we would want.
This little character goes out in the night and finds himself face to face with a pair of pants that come toward him. He's so afraid he runs away. He meets the pants on various occasions the next few nights and ends up hiding from them. He is so afraid of meeting the pants. But then one night he does. As they come toward him he cries out in alarm, but then the pants begin to cry because they weren't trying to scare him. They were trying to be friends with him. So now whenever he goes out he finds it easy to greet the pants. He says hi. They say hi back. It's all very silly.
I made a little skit where I meet a pair of pants and try to say hello but they aren't nice pants so things go south real fast.
