The learn-by-doing model is alive
The learn-by-doing model is alive in well in Fairmont Prep's Advanced Science & Engineering Program (ASEP). Students recently traveled to iFLY Indoor Skydiving to gain a real-world understanding of terminal velocity, the “steady speed achieved by an object freely falling through a gas or liquid.” After predicting their own terminal velocity using measurements and algebraic reasoning, they each had a chance to fly in a wind tunnel and then compare their actual terminal velocity with their predictions.
