Harissa chicken is also a great option for entertaining. It’s a popular dish from North Africa that is made with a spicy paste called harissa of course! The paste is made from chili peppers, garlic, olive oil, and various spices, and it gives the chicken a delicious smoky flavour. You could buy the paste readymade if time is an issue or make it yourself as per this recipe.
While harissa chicken is often cooked in the oven, it can also be grilled on the barbecue. The key to grilling harissa chicken is to cook it slowly so that the skin does not burn. First, prepare the harissa paste by mixing together all of the ingredients. Then, rub the paste onto the chicken thighs with some olive oil. Preheat your grill to medium-low heat and oil the grates. Grill the chicken for about 10 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
Serve with a salad or couscous for a complete meal. Charred onion, tomato and zucchini make great sides. So, fire up the grill or BBQ and give harissa chicken a try. You'll be glad you did.
