One of the most important
One of the most important new drive systems of the new Volkswagen Tiguan 2020/2021 is the plug-in hybrid drive with a system power of 180 kW (245 PS). Thanks to a lithium-ion battery with an energy content of 13 kWh, the new Tiguan eHybrid is capable of all-electric driving over distances of up to 60 kilometres (NEDC) in E-MODE, which therefore means zero local emissions. In Hybrid mode – the turbocharged petrol engine (110 kW / 150 PS) and the electric drive motor (85 kW / 115 PS) work together. In conjunction with one of the navigation systems, this permits the Volkswagen Tiguan 2020 2021 eHybrid to automatically activate a predictive hybrid strategy using GPS and map data. For this purpose, the system integrates the topography, routed data and destination region in route calculation. The predictive hybrid strategy helps the drive system to optimally use the electric energy stored in the lithium-ion battery and minimise fuel consumption. The Tiguan eHybrid then repeatedly drives under purely electric power and thus with zero local emissions.
Finally, after 142 km (88 mi) trip I achieved 3.8 l/ 100 km (61.9 mpg US or 74.3 mpg UK) and 5.7 kWh/100 km (9.2 kWh/100 mi or 10.9 mpkWh). I started with almost full batteries and, as you can see, made some acceleration tests, not only smooth driving :)
The new Volkswagen Tiguan 2020 / 2021 takes assisted driving with Travel Assist. The system can take over steering, braking and acceleration of the SUV at speeds of between 0 km/h (with DSG dual clutch gearbox) and 210 km/h (the driver remains responsible for control of the SUV at all times). For this, the system relies on systems including ACC Adaptive Cruise Control (longitudinal guidance) and Lane Assist lane keeping system (lateral guidance). The driver activates the system by pressing a separate Travel Assist button on the new multifunction steering wheel. The driver has to keep their hands on the steering wheel even when Travel Assist is active. The Tiguan’s electronics detect this via new touch-sensitive surfaces on the steering wheel. This touch detection is a great deal more reliable than the steering angle-based system of the predecessor even on long and very flat stretches of road.
