Thus length of one turn is 3.4 nm.  Due to spiral twisting, the helix has two types of alternate grooves: major (22 Å) and minor (12 Å). Note: Length of DNA is defined as number of base pairs (pair of nucleotides). The number of base pairs in a haploid content of a particular species is fixed.
