Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca (KCS) is a multifactorial disorder due to inflammation of the ocular surface and lacrimal gland, neurotrophic deficiency and meibomian gland dysfunction. A condition characterized by the inability of the eye to produce sufficient tears to keep it moist. It is more common in older adults and in some cases may be associated with underlying diseases such as Sjogren's syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. Sicca syndrome with keratoconjunctivitis is briefly touched.

Symptoms of dry eyes include irritation, burning, itching, a pulling sensation, pressure behind the eye, and grittiness or a feeling as if something is in the eye (foreign body sensation). Damage to the surface of the eye increases discomfort and sensitivity to bright light.
