The over-the-top occurs when you start your downswing with your upper body instead of your lower body. This causes your club to move outside the target line and across the ball, resulting in a slice or a pull. The early extension occurs when you thrust your hips towards the ball instead of rotating them. This causes you to lose your posture and your spine angle, resulting in a loss of power and control.
To fix these faults, you must learn how to initiate your downswing with your lower body and keep your club on the correct swing plane. You must also learn how to maintain your posture and spine angle throughout the swing. This will allow you to swing from the inside and hit the ball with a square clubface. You will also generate more speed and compression at impact, increasing your distance and control.
