Putting on the Adidas Terrex
Putting on the Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra at home initially left me skeptical. The peculiar sensation in the heel and the oversized fit for a size 9 didn't inspire confidence. However, once I hit the trails, these shoes quickly proved their worth.
Ascending uphill, the Energy Rod filled super foam provided an ideal cushioning experience. Their extreme lightweight construction made it feel as though I was simply wearing socks, enhancing agility and speed. Despite the rather shallow lug depth, the Continental rubber outsole offered impressive grip, especially on technical terrain.
Despite the size discrepancy, the lockdown was excellent, ensuring a secure fit throughout the run. Descending felt effortless, with noticeable energy return as I navigated technical trails with ease. From steep, dry paths to snow, mud, off-trail terrain, and grass, the shoes excelled in every condition encountered during the 9-mile run.
While 9 miles may seem short, I'm confident that these shoes will only improve with more break-in time. As for the run itself, it marked my first time conquering Powerhouse Mountain—a challenging route boasting sections as steep as 45% and off-trail bushwhacking. It's the perfect training ground for upcoming tough races like Bighorn and Hardrock.
With less than two months until I tackle 100 miles around the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming, days like this will only get longer, higher, and more beautiful.
