Footage of Main Line Trains (Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, Hempstead & Oyster Bay Branches) at Elmont - UBS Arena, along with a brief station view of the new westbound platform, entrance, and overpass. The westbound platform opened on the afternoon of October 6th, with very little prior communication from the MTA unlike the eastbound platform opening. Official communication on social media was delivered less than two hours before westbound trains started stopping at the station This side of the station has exits to the neighborhood of Bellerose Terrace in Nassau, near the City Line.
The Elmont - UBS Arena station (renamed from simply "Elmont" days before opening) is the newest station opened on the LIRR in 45 years. The previous station which opened (excluding temporary stations) was the former Southampton Campus station on the Montauk Line, in 1976. That station was discontinued in 1998. The eastbound platform opened for event day service on Saturday, November 20, 2021 on the Islanders home opener that season (the first at the new arena).
This station will remain operating for events only until East Side Access opens (later this year). Currently, eastbound Hempstead Branch, many Ronkonkoma Branch, and some Port Jefferson Branch trains stop at this station. Oyster Bay trains and westbound Hempstead Branch trains are not stopping at this station at all. For the Hempstead Branch, this is a temporary pattern until October 31st, when westbound trains will start stopping at the station.
