Are your QLs being a pain in your back? Give this stretch a try to get them to loosen up. Stretches the quadratus lumborum, the rib cage, and works the whole lateral chain using a single long stick (6-7ft). The QLs are well known for being a prime source of lower back pain. However, they’re actually one part of a whole system of muscles that work together to support, stabilize and mobilize the spine. If your QLs are overworked and tense, it could because they’ve been compensating for other muscles. Try strengthening some of their “coworkers”: the erector spinae, gluteal muscles, and the muscles of your hips and core for a more permanent solution. An important thing to note is that the QLs work together, so if one is in trouble, the other one will be too!
