Taking a brief look at vs ExpressVPN, I can immediately see the difference. employs more space and has a neat visual map, showing available locations and where you are connecting to. All the necessary tabs are to the side, and server configuration hides in a neat dropdown menu.
On the contrary, the ExpressVPN app window is more narrow and minimalistic, you can literally open the app and tap “connect” - no additional work is required. However, it gets confusing pretty quickly if you decide to open settings or certain features. They have separate windows, and that neither looks nor feels good.
In my opinion, has found a better balance, being full of features but also easy to use, while ExpressVPN is bound to leave first-time users confused.

Both VPNs have very straightforward no-logs policies: they keep no user info and have even designed their server infrastructure accordingly. I have always said that ExpressVPN changed the industry by introducing its RAM-only servers, which just can’t keep user data long-term. took just a bit longer to also implement those servers. I also appreciate that both VPNs are based in privacy-friendly countries, to avoid governmental scrutiny or requests to release user data.
However, a few years ago, ExpressVPN was purchased by Kape Technologies, a tech company with a very shady past involving malware. It wasn’t a good look, and for the longest time afterward, I couldn’t trust ExpressVPN. Is ExpressVPN safe after all? Considering that since the acquisition ExpressVPN has passed a couple of independent audits and established a Bug Bounty program, I’d say “Yes”. That’s why I’m willing to give it a second chance. As for , I find no need to give it extra chances - this VPN constantly performs security checks and looks to improve its service. No complaints here.

Is safe? On the baseline I’d say it’s exactly the same as ExpressVPN: encryption, the kill switch, split tunneling - there are barely any differences there. But when it comes to extra features, for instance - malware protection, there’s a clear discrepancy between Nord vs ExpressVPN. ’s Threat Protection deals with ads, trackers, and malicious links, and can even detect malware on downloads.
On the other hand, ExpressVPN’s Threat Manager can block trackers and malicious traffic very well but completely ignores ads, and can’t quite deal with malware either. While this is a downside, it has a way to do a comeback - ExpressVPN Keys. Recently, ExpressVPN included a rather reliable password manager in its list of features. Sure, has NordPass, but it’s a separate app, with a separate price tag, while ExpressVPN Keys is included in the VPN app, and requires no extra payments.
