How to Clean & Detail Your Engine

Detailing the engine of a
Detailing the engine of a classic car is a simple job, but in order to be done properly, certain steps must be observed.
You have two options:
1. Dry-cleaning the engine, which in some cases may be preferable, or
2. Wet-cleaning it with chemicals and water for rinsing
For this 1973 Corvette Stingray, we chose option #2 since the engine had not been cleaned in over 20 years!
In order to avoid starting problems, we insulated the carburetor, distributor, coil, and alternator with old plastic shopping bags and masking tape. This worked great as the car started without any hesitation after the detailing process was finished.
We also used a couple of products by Chemical Guys to protect the engine and also add a nice sheen to the now clean components, especially the coolant and vacuum hoses.
The job took approximately two hours and the results speak for themselves.
We are planning additional future projects for this Vette, and having a clean engine to work on will make the process more pleasant.
