There are many scenarios of illegal searches and seizures.  One example is being stopped by the police while driving down the road when you have not committed any traffic violation or crime.

If you’ve ever seen the popular TV show Cops, you might be familiar with this recurring situation. A cop pulls someone over for a perceived traffic violation. He speaks with the driver asking seemingly innocent questions. “Where are you coming from?” “Who lives there?” “Where are you headed?” Then suddenly the officer becomes suspicious that the driver is transporting drugs within his vehicle.  What started as a simple traffic violation issue has now morphed into a full fledged felony drug investigation.

The officer may even attempt to delay issuing a traffic warning or violation in order to keep the driver and his car at the scene until a drug sniffing dog arrives. The dog will sniff the exterior of the vehicle and if they detect any drug odors then the cops suspicion will be confirmed. Another method used by police is when they pressure you into giving consent to search your vehicle. This is a common practice when the police stop a vehicle for perceived traffic violations so they can attempt to justify their hunches of illegal activity.  It's important to understand your constitutional rights in this regard.
