No one has claimed responsibility, but police suspected Kashmiri militants fighting to separate Kashmir from India, or intelligence agents from Pakistan.

India accuses Pakistan of giving active support to a 10-year old insurgency in Kashmir, the only Muslim-majority state in overwhelmingly Hindu-majority India.

Pakistan says its support is limited to the political and diplomatic arenas.

Dozens of militant organizations are fighting government forces for Kashmir's independence or for a merger with officially Islamic Pakistan.

Police said they also found 13 kilos of explosives.
