You may have seen these cassette to mp3 converters around.  There certainly seem to be many of them on the market.  Many big retailers sell them, and it is also quite easy to find them for sale online.  I recently decided to give one a try.

In a nutshell, if you have a bunch of old cassettes that you would like to digitize, this is a gadget that is intended to do that.  But just how well does this thing work?  Is it any good?  Does it do a decent job?  In this video I give my very honest opinion about it.

I have digitized a few tapes with this thing, and right away I noticed some positive features, but also a few drawbacks.  In this video I discuss everything you need to know about this device.

You will see this cassette to mp3 converter marketed under several different names, being sold by many different companies.  But essentially, they are all pretty much the same.  The packaging may vary slightly, but overall, they are all the same.

Basically you just put your cassette into this thing, and hook it up to your laptop via an included USB cable.  You play the tape, and use a program like Audacity to capture the audio and digitize it onto your laptop.  Is this thing easy to use?  Do it give good quality rips of your old cassettes?  Watch the video to find out.

As I mention in the video, this is mostly intended for quick, easy conversions.  The audio quality is okay, but certainly not on any "audiophile" level.  This is for people who are not too fussy about sound quality, and just want to quickly and easily convert all their old cassettes.  If that's all you want, then this device will probably serve you well.

This thing can also be run using two standard AA batteries, so you could use it as an old school cassette walkman.  It comes with software, a USB cable, a cheap pair of headphones and an adapter that you can plug into the cigarette lighter in your car.

Do you own one of these converters?  What do you think of it?  Do you feel it is worth buying?  Would you recommend it to anyone who would want to digitize a bunch of old tapes?  Please feel free to leave a comment!
