Ocean County - Lakewood - New Jersey - Third Alarm Commercial Structure Fire - 133 Ocean Ave.

Around 4:08 PM Lakewood Police received a phone call for a working structure fire at 133 Ocean Ave, called in by an off-duty LPD Officer. The BOX was quickly upgraded to a WSF due to the amount of calls and the off-duty officer confirming a working fire. First due L-5 & E-5 sized it up as a working structure fire in the old wood yard off Ocean Ave. C-1 quickly arrived on the scene and took command. E-5 started to stretch a 2.5 to get water on the fire, intense fire conditions and smoke were showing from the large vacant building. C-1 quickly upgraded it to the second alarm at this point to bring in mutual aid for the township. C-1 called for defensive fire ops due to the fire load inside the building. E-5 charged the 2.5 and got water on the fire in minutes while heavy fire and smoke conditions were still showing. C-1 requested two more ladder trucks to the scene Howell 19-3-90 & Lakewood Tower 1. Howell's crew from 19-3 was to make entry from the rear of the property and set up master stream ops while L-5 sticks were being set up in the front of the structure. At some point two civilians were located in the rear of the structure who were inside the building at the time of the fire, they were quickly transported to EMS. It was also reported that 5 people were inside on the second floor (believed to be squatters) at this time C-1 upgraded the fire to a Third Alarm as fire conditions remained the same and doubtful. The second master stream was put in service with other hand lines, and a massive amount of water was being dumped into this fire. Heavy smoke and fire remained. Mutual Aid from Point Plesant Boro was requested for the 2nd RIT team as the first from Jackson had already gone to work. Crews did searches of the building but were negative for any other persons inside. Companys from Brick and Toms River provided coverage for the town. Howell, Toms River, Brick, Jackson, and Point Peasant Boro were all at the scene of the fire. The heavy smoke and fire conditions remained for about 2 hours. As each progress report was the same.
