Reviewing Sony's fresh camera tech on the Xperia 1 ii flagship phone after a week of testing the photo and video quality. Following the flawed original, Sony Mobile went away and collaborated again with the Alpha guys, while also bringing Zeiss on board. The result is one of the best smartphone cameras of 2020 so far.
The Xperia 1 ii serves up improved photo and video performance in tricky light, so night and HDR shots are now a lot better. This phone also gives you full manual controls in Camera Pro, which follows the Sony Alpha UI (and soon will support RAW images).
I was impressed by the video results when testing too. As with shooting photos, Sony's excellent auto-focus and auto-exposure means your subject stays sharp, with accurate colour reproduction. You also have Cinema Pro for shooting proper cinematic fare, which is simple enough for anyone to use.
