A report from Human Rights Watch found that both Sudan's warring parties have committed widespread sexual violence against women and girls.
It found that women between the ages of 9 and 60 have been sexually abused in the Sudanese cities of Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman since the conflict began in mid-April 2023.

Both the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been implicated in rape, child marriage, forced marriage and sexual assault.
It also found that women and girls have experienced severe psychological and physical trauma. In at least four cases, the victims died from their injuries.

Civilians in Sudan are struggling to access medical assistance due to deliberate attacks on healthcare facilities and restrictions on humanitarian aid.
Conflict-related sexual violence is a violation of international humanitarian law and classified as a war crime.

Al Jazeera spoke with a teenager in Khartoum, who said she was raped by members of the Rapid Support Forces.
