There are so many ways
There are so many ways to get hurt in the NFL in 2018. But back in the 1960s, even the first down markers could leave you with a career debilitating injury. That's what happened to Bubba Smith while playing for the Baltimore Colts in the preseason. After winning a Super Bowl and playing in a second, this injury would derail his career, and the NFL hardly seemed to care.
