Rainbow: The “Twangers” Episode

Rainbow, a British children’s show produced by Thames Television, aired from 1972 until 1992.

In 1979, the Rainbow team created a unique sketch for the Thames staff’s Christmas tape, often called the “Twangers” episode.

Laden with innuendos and double meanings, this sketch was crafted solely for the amusement of the staff at their Christmas celebration and not for the general audience.

The episode is famously known for featuring a song called “The Plucking Song” filled with double entendres.

Despite its content, the episode reflects the more relaxed attitudes of the 1970s.
