The story of John Winchester from the TV show Supernatural, father of Sam and Dean.

🚨 Spoiler warning for seasons 1-14.
This is neither a John apologist piece, nor a pure John hate video. I try to stay somewhere in the middle, taking a look at both his worst and best deeds on the show. I'm doing this to gain a better understanding for John as a character to be able to write him in my fanfic "Empty Earth". Before making this video, I really didn't feel I had a good grasp on him. Even now, several of John's decisions refuse to make sense to me. But maybe that's because they were never written with cohesive character behavior in mind, but as workarounds for Jeffrey Dean Morgan's busy schedule? Guess we'll never know.
I'm aware John is a very loaded topic within the fandom, but please don't be hateful in the comments, neither to me nor to each other, or I have to turn them off. Hate isn't what we all need more of. It is far from my intention to disrespect anyone's personal trauma that they see mirrored in what John did to his sons. I absolutely agree that his parenting left deep emotional scars on both of his sons, and I hope that fact is reflected in the video. Like I said, this was just my attempt to understand John better for my writing.
Yes, this video somehow manages to feature no less than 5 different Dean actors, and 3 John actors. Only in Supernatural.
