Welcome to Tangier, Morocco! Located in the Strait of Gibraltar, where Africa and Europe intertwine, Tangier (Arabic: طنجة, Amazigh language: ⵜⴰⵏⴳⴰ) has long maintained its strategic relevance. Bathed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, it is the capital of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. During part of the 20th century it constituted an international protectorate called the International Zone of Tangier, until the city's incorporation into Morocco with the country's independence (1956). Ruled for centuries by waves of conquerors, including Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs and Portuguese, the city is more than two and a half millennia old, making it the oldest in North Africa. The medina, kasbah, bazaars and souks are the most vibrant settings in the country, and its beaches are excellent. Over the last century, Tangier has become a favorite destination for the international jet set. We hope you enjoy this new tour!
