Maple is a Golden Retriever puppy and she's close to 4 months of age! She did such a great job!🥰🐶

Sit command
When working with your dog, you should be able to get the sit command either verbally or with a hand signal. When you're first starting out teaching the sit command, you want to be sure to separate the hand and verbal cue by 1 second, meaning that you would say sit, then raise your hand for them to follow it into a sit, then mark and reward! If you do not separate the two by 1 second, one will overshadow the other. Eventually you would separate the two and just do them individually. It gives you more power to have them separate. Say for instance your dog couldn't hear anymore - you can use your hand signal. Or if your dog was far away from you and couldn't see you, then you can use the verbal cue.
It's so important to have a strong practice of both methods, for safety and fun!

"Look at me" is the first command you should teach your dog! It's the cherry on the cake, per se. You're learning to build up attention with this command and help them keep focused on you. It can be used as a singular command or combined with something else, such as when you say look at me and then tell them to sit. If they're looking at you, they aren't looking at anything else so it helps - especially when you're outside with distraction!
How to practice:
Put the treat to your dog's nose then bring your hand back up to your eyes. Their gaze will follow the lure and you say, "look at me," keep it there for a couple of seconds and then reward. Gradually work up your time!

Down command
When working with your dog, you should be able to get the down command either verbally or with a hand signal. When you're first starting out teaching the down command, you want to be sure to separate the hand and verbal cue by 1 second, meaning that you would say down, then lower your hand for them to follow it into a down, then mark and reward!
