EFTM Editor and tech expert Trevor Long says he sees the potential in the human brain chip implants made by Elon Musk’s company Neuralink but believes it needs to be “done correctly”.

It is hoped the chips will allow people with disabilities to control a computer using their minds.

Mr Long said that human trials are regulated by the FDA in the United States.

“Now, as long as that is closely monitored, this has the potential to, over many years … create control communication for people who suffer from quadriplegia and other things," he told Sky News Australia.

"But if Elon Musk isn’t careful, it could go wrong.

“If he makes statements publicly about this that are essentially incorrect – he’s made statements previously about the effects of these trials on animals, and there have been some negative effects.

“We need to be honest about these trials – they need to be open about side effects and the problems that occur.”
