Join me for the next 5 weeks in the summer saxophone challenge. Learning the 5 best songs to take you and your saxophone onto your local music stage and play live with a band or sit in at a session or open mic event.
When i started to play the saxophone in public, i ran into an unexpected challenge. I knew the stage I wanted to play on, I knew what time the session would be open, but I had no idea what song to play. I needed to choose one song and elevate my level on this song to a point where I could confidently perform it on stage. It took me days of listening and searching to find a song that was suited both to my playing level, and that would also fit well with the session band and audience. After the first song, I kept running into the same problem as I wanted to grow me repertoire on the saxophone. Eventually I settled on songs that really helped me get my start in the local gig-circuit in Amsterdam.
In this video I show you the 5 songs that helped me bridge the gap and got me playing on stage as a regular. Over the next 5 weeks I will be practicing and discussing each song together with you as a fun summertime challenge.
