After Nephton's expansion and the arrival of rail service in 1954 it wasn;t long before the competitio build a plant and started mining on the north east end of the Nepheline deposit at Blue Mountain and a 4 mile extension of the rail line was built to the new plant in 1955. By 1985 the mines would come under the ownership of the same company, but till this day still have different labour unions and agreements.
